A bad ending in which the protagonist eats the poisoned flatbread offered while imprisoned, a deceptively simple choice that turns a temporary setback into a permanent one.
Poisoned Flatbread is one of the most straightforward bad endings in the game, and also one of the most commonly encountered. After being sent to prison following the banquet investigation, the protagonist is offered a flatbread. The choice seems obvious — eat when you’re hungry — but the flatbread is laced with poison, and eating it ends your run on the spot.
What makes this ending memorable is the context: by this point the player has already navigated dress selection, a QTE, the banquet performance, and an investigation into Cairen Jiang’s death. The idea that a simple piece of bread can undo all that progress is a harsh introduction to the game’s philosophy that no choice is truly safe. The correct path is to skip the flatbread and proceed to Prison Dinner, where even the gruel option leads to a bad ending — forcing the player to skip food entirely to survive.
